Downing Street,
31st May, 1916.

My dear Stewart,
I have your letter of the 38th of May.
Copies of the Petition to which you
refer have already reached me, but the original
Petition is being submitted to me through the
Governor who will let me have it with his oòmmente
upon it.
You will understand, I am sure, that I
can do nothing until I have heard what the Governor has to say. I think, therefore, that no useful
purpose would be served either by a question or by
an interview until I have had the Governor's
despatch.
Yours sincerely,
(Sd) A.Bonar Law.
